Purple Hen Country Lodge from the front The Purple Hen Country Lodge is set in ten acres of avocado orchards, gardens, woodland and native bush close to the beautiful Kaimai range of hills and Katikati township - famous for it's murals.

The 'Purple Hen' provides top quality backpacker and guesthouse accommodation just off State Highway 2.

'Purple Hen' is also suitable for groups, retreats and conferences up to 24 people.

You can choose to stay in our purpose built comfortable bunk rooms or treat yourself and take a luxury room, each with en suite bathroom, in the main house.

The owners

The owners Liz and Pete Ward have lived in New Zealand for over 10 years and moved to the B.O.P about 3 years ago.

We love meeting new people from all over the world. We just hope they have a great stay here and enjoy their NZ experience.

Why the name 'Purple Hen'?
Pukeko AKA Purple Swamp Hen The reason we chose this name is that we are frequently visited by a family of Pukekos who love the large pond and open grass paddocks. Pukekos are also known as a Purple Swamp Hen .
How far are you from town?
It's under 3km to get into town and the shops. By car it takes about 5mins and on a bike (available for FREE) it takes about 15mins.
Can I have my wedding or reception there?
